Wakatobi, located in the southeastern part of Sulawesi, is indeed a place of enchanting marine beauty. This area has long been a popular tourist destination for both domestic and foreign tourists. One of the attractions of Wakatobi is the beauty of its coral species and underwater biota. There are also many interesting activities for tourists to relax, such as diving and snorkelling. Be sure to add Wakatobi to your list of places to visit in Southeast Sulawesi. Wakatobi Island is full of marine life, with at least 750 of the 850 coral species in the world. Moreover, the underwater conditions of Wakatobi have diverse forms, ranging from slopes, atolls, cliffs, plains, to underwater caves. Wakatobi consists of beautiful islands, each with its own unique character.
Wangi-Wangi Island is the gateway and capital of Wakatobi Regency. Geographically, the area, which locals call Wanci Island, is divided into 14 villages and 6 sub-districts with five islands. Wangi-Wangi Island offers a variety of interesting experiences. Travellers can admire the dolphin attraction in the waters of Kapota Island, in the east of the island. Then take a sea tour at Sousu Beach or Waha Beach, which is famous for its cypress-like trees. Another beach that is no less unique is Moli'i Sahatu, on the beach of Patuno village, tourists can find hundreds of freshwater springs among the rocks and sand of the beach. In addition to its beautiful beaches, Wangi Wangi Island also has several cave lakes with clean, clear water and a beautiful natural atmosphere. For example, Topa Cave Lake in Mandati village, Kontamale Cave Lake in Wanci village, and Tee kosapi Cave Lake in Wanci village. For a different feel, you can visit the highland area of Puncak Waginopo. Arriving at the summit, tourists can admire the natural scenery, plantation area, vast ocean, and sunset. A visit to Wangi-Wangi Island is not only fun but also insightful. Travellers can learn about culture and history at the Liya Togo Traditional Village. The villagers still maintain the tradition of living in wooden stilt houses. This custom dates back to the days of the Liya Togo Kingdom, which was part of the Buton Sultanate. Liya Togo traditional village also has a palace fort and mosque that are relics of this kingdom.
