Bulukumba comes from the word Bulukumpa which at a certain dialectal level is transformed into Bulukumba. The mythical name Bulukumba is said to be derived from two words: the Bugis words burukku and mupa meaning ``still my mountain''. This myth first emerged in the 17th century during a civil war between two major kingdoms on Sulawesi Island: Gowa Kingdom and Bone Kingdom. Bulukumba is famous for its traditional Pinisi shipbuilding area, earning it the nickname Bumi Panrita Lopi. In the local language, panrita means expert or craftsman and lopi means ship.  So, simply put, Panrita Lopi means an experienced shipbuilder.

"BUMI PANRITA LOPI BULUKUMBA" is a pake exploring the diversity of natural and cultural beauty of one of the famous areas in South Sulawesi, Bulukumba. with the charm of natural beauty and cultural diversity offered, making Bulukumba Regency one of the tourist attractions. One of the tribes in Bulukumba that has a different life from other tribes is the Kajang tribe. This tribe is one of the tribes that live in the interior of Bulukumba. They consider this area as the heritage of their ancestors and call it Tana Toa. This traditional community is led by a leader with the title Amma Toa. The Kajang community is synonymous with very strong beliefs that distinguish it from other cultures. So, not only because they wear black every day, but their beliefs are also very strong. Anyone entering the customary area will be asked to remove footwear. It is also advised not to wear anything other than black. The people of the Kajang tribe are bound by the rule to keep saying good words to their people. Do not use words that are unpleasant to hear.
